Abstract
The goal of the present lectures is to introduce the reader to some central problems areas in “numerical combustion” which can be subsumed under the common headline of singular asymptotic limits. In particular, the issues of Low Mach number reactive flows and the Consequences of rapid chemical reactions will be addressed in some detail. An additional chapter briefly summarizes a few additional important topics which the reader should be familiar with before embarking on serious numerical simulations of combustion processes. The discussions apply to gas phase combustion only.
